Unichip Map Warning Warning!
The old Unichip program doesn’t work reliably under Windows XP, Vista, or Windows 7. The tuniXP.exe program enables it to work properly under XP and newer software. It uses a free program called “DOSBox” to simulate a dos type environment in XP, Vista and Windows 7 so older Dos type programs work correctly.

Below is a basic step by step outline

Step 1
Install the Classic Unichip Tuning Software (Full Tuni)  Once the old program is extracted and installed on the computer go to step 2

Step 2

  1. Download the tuniXP.exe program It will create and extract files to C:\uniXP Go to C:\tuniXP
  2. Double click on installtuniXP.bat It will install the latest version of DOSBox 7.
  3. After it installed DOSBox it will automatically create some configuration files.
  4. Drag the tuniXP shortcut from the C:\tuniXP folder onto the desktop. (It is the file that is called tuniXP without any extension)
  5. Double click on the shortcut and it will open the old program in DOSBox.
  6. The old program officially only works on a normal comm port set as COM1 running windows 98, 95, or DOS.
  7. With Dosbox it even seems to work with some USB to serial converters. We tested it on a prolific USB to serial converter. It worked 98% of the time.
  8. Uploading with the USB to serial converter doesn’t seem to work all the time. If it doesn’t want to work with the serial to USB converter, switch off the Unichip and restart the program. Switch the Unichip back on and it should be OK.
  9. It should also work with a PCMCIA to serial converter. If you want to use a USB to serial or PCMCIA to serial converter it must be set to be COM1, COM2, COM3, or COm4.
  10. This can be set up under device manager, ports, port settings, advanced. If it is set to COM1 it should all work. If you can’t set it to COM1 because it is already used set it to COM2, 3, or 4.
  11. Go to C:\tuniXP and double click on tunicom2.bat, tunicom3.bat or tunicom4.bat depending on which port you are using.
  12. It will set all the directories of the old program to use the correct com port.
  13. It will also set up Dosbox to use the correct COM port. If you are using a USB to serial converter always plug it into the same USB port.
  14. If the USB to serial converter doesn’t work there will unfortunately not be much we can do about it.
